Golden Years Weekender: How Our Winner Got On

The Golden Years Weekender closed on the last day of July, we drew it on the first of August, and the winner has now been and come back. So here is how it went.

The draw

One hundred and twenty eight correct entries went into it. We drew live with Tomas on the Saturday morning and rang the number while a record was playing, which is how we always do it, and this time somebody answered on the second ring.

The winner is from Kestrel Bay, has listened since the station launched, and asked us not to use her full name, which we are respecting.

What she won

Two nights away, both nights of the weekender, tickets for the whole bill, and travel.

The station paid for the travel, because the original prize did not include it and it became obvious fairly quickly that it should have.

How it went

Her verdict, which she gave us on the phone on the Tuesday and which we are quoting in full because it cannot be improved on: "Too loud on Friday, exactly right on Saturday, and I have not been up that late since 1998."

She asked us to pass on that the Saturday afternoon set on the second stage was the best thing there, which was not the headliner, and that the queue for the food was worse than the queue for anything else.

What we would change

The prize should have included the travel from the start. We will not make that mistake again and the terms on the next one have been rewritten.

What is on now

Sunday Lunch For Four opens on 1 September, and there is a Back To School Bundle running on Northgate Hits until the twentieth.

Everything live is on the Competitions page. We draw them all live, on air, at random, and we say who won.
