Northgate Gold Adds A Sunday Night Request Show

There is a new two hour request show on Northgate Gold on Sunday evenings from seven, starting on 6 September, with Ruth.

It replaces the automated hour that has sat there since the station launched, which was fine and which nobody has ever asked us about, and that was rather the point.

How to request

By message through the site, by email, or on the phone during the show. The line opens at half past six.

We want the story with the record. Not a long one. A sentence about who it reminds you of, or where you were, is what turns a request show into something worth sitting through. A list of song titles is not.

What we will and will not play

The Gold library is about eleven thousand records and covers roughly 1958 to 1992. If it is in there we will play it, and if it is not we will tell you rather than quietly ignoring it.

We will not play a record twice in a night, we will not play anything already scheduled elsewhere in the evening, and Ruth reserves the right to decline anything on grounds of taste, which she has already used once in rehearsal.

Dedications

Yes, and read out properly, with names. If you would rather it went out without your name on it, say so and it will.

Why Sunday

Because that is when people are in and not doing very much, and because the alternative slots all had something in them we were not prepared to move.

If it goes well it goes to two nights. If it does not, we will say so rather than letting it fade out, which is what usually happens to these.
